SportsZone's Second Annual NFL Mock Draft!!!! - This Is Sports Zone

Last year, Dave Hastings, Erich Treslar, and Mike Aglialoro had the first NFL Mock Draft in This Is SportsZone’s history, live on- air the day of the Draft. While not on air this year, Mike rounded up the new gang- Jake Dixon, Tom Lembo and Aaron Herasme, with Jay Rofsky to pick for his beloved Minnesota Vikings (through the magic of e-mails), for this year’s SportsZone Mock Draft.

1. Houston- Jake Dixon- Jadeveon Clowney, DE, SC- Logic would say the Texans should grab a quarterback of the future here, but I just can’t see them passing on the chance to team JJ Watt with this beast for years’ to come.

2. St Louis (f/Was)- Aaron Herasme- Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M- I’m going against the grain here, because I think they are going to trade Bradford to Minnesota, and it was reported that the Rams’ GM met with Killf Kingsbury, Manziel’s OC two years ago, and that to me is the smoking gun.
3. Jacksonville- Tom Lembo- Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson- A strong case can be made for LB Khalil Mack but the Jags are more desperate for a big time offensive weapon. With talented but troubled WR Justin Blackmon’s future in doubt it’s a smart idea to get a can’t miss talent who can break games open.

4. Cleveland- Mike Aglialoro- Mike Evans, WR- Texas A&M, I think cleveland needs another weapon to go with Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron and Ben Tate, to help WHOEVER plays QB. They need that weapon in Evans here more than a qb they could easily get later in the round, or early in the second round.

5. Oakland- Jake – Blake Bortles, QB, UCF- Oakland needs a franchise QB, Pryor didn’t work out, Bortles is that guy.

6. Atlanta – Aaron- Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo- This is potential trade down for Atlanta to a team that really loves Mack. If not they take the best available player on the board.

7. Tampa Bay- Tom- Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn- Many mockers will comment about the steals they make in a draft. None would be bigger than this. Keep in mind this won’t happen. Robinson won’t last beyond 5 and likely will go at 2 (sorry Aaron). He will be written in pen at tackle for the next decade for the Bucs if they got this lucky.

8. Minnesota- Jay Rofsky- Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt.- I’m not sure I like the Sam Bradford idea Aaron has put forth in this Mock. However, if that happens my Vikes need to reinforce the middle of the line, and Donald’d the best lineman in the draft. Jared Who?

9. Buffalo- Mike- Eric Ebron, TE, UNC- EJ Manuel could be a good NFL QB. But he needs help if he’s going to become one, and as much as I could see Doug Marrone going for line help or more on defense, why not add the best tight end in the draft, instead of putting Stevie Johnson and Mike Williams next to Scott Chandler?

10. Detroit- Jake- Justin Gilbert, CB, Okla. St.- Detroit needs a top notch corner if they’re going to win a division that has Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, Corddelle Patterson, Brandon Marshall, and Alshon Jeffrey.

11. Tennessee- Aaron- Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M- Could be among the biggest steals here, following in his fathers legacy, when this team was the Houston Oilers. Don’t be shocked if he’s still free at 10 if a team jumps ahead of Tennessee.

12. NYG- Tom- Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan- The dreaded “red flag” follows Lewan as he was accused of punching a man after a game against Ohio State. Lewan claims he was simply breaking up an altercation. This is a great fit for Big Blue, they have a strong locker room and a glaring need for offensive line help to protect Eli Manning and give the wideouts a chance to shake loose.

13. St Louis- Mike- Zach Martin, OT, ND- The Rams could go any number of ways here with their second pick in the round. They could go wide receiver to give Manziel somebody to throw to, or they could go safety here, but I’m taking the same choice and beefing up a line that faces the Seahawks and 49ers a quarter of their games.

14. Chicago- Jake – CJ Mosley, ILB, Alabama- Bears need help at Inside linebacker in the worst way since Brian Urlacher left, and Mosley is the best at the position in the draft. He’s not Urlacher, but he’ll make a big impact.

15. Pittsburgh- Aaron- Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan St.- Pittsburgh’s dream scenario comes true and they get the player they want, while grooming him to replace Ike Taylor who is at the end of the road with the Steelers

16. Dallas- Tom- Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA- The Cowboys defense was awful in Lane Kiffin’s first and only season as coordinator. Making matters worse they lost All Pro DeMarcus Ware to Denver and Pro Bowler Jason Hatcher to Washington. Dallas needs a player to get after the QB and Barr is the best man available for that job.

17. Baltimore- Mike- Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville- They could go corner or defensive line here, but they also still have to fill the void of Ed Reed. There’s no one better in this draft to fill that void than Pryor.

18. NYJ- Jake – Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon St.- The Jets need a WR who can make plays, and that’s all Cooks did as the Biletnikoff Winner last year

19. Miami- Aaron- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama- This is a spot where someone will try to trade ahead of Arizona to get Teddy Bridgewater. If Miami keeps the pick, they’ll take best available. From now to the end of the 1st round, picks are going to be made by need.

20. Arizona- Tom- Teddy Bridgewater QB, Louisville- It’s no secret the Cardinals have struggled at the QB position since Kurt Warner led them to a Super Bowl appearance in 2008. Carson Palmer is 34 years old and in a division with Seattle, San Francisco and St. Louis’ defenses you need a trigger man. Bridgewater’s stock fell after a poor Pro Day, but there’s good value here and he can hold the clipboard for a pro’s pro in Palmer and take a year to get settled in.

21. Green Bay- Mike- Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia- They always have a terrible O-line, and now that they have a franchise runner in Eddie Lacy, along with Aaron Rodgers, the Pack needs to get them some protection.

22. Philadelphia-Jake- Marquis Lee, WR, USC- Philly needs a wideout to cushion the loss of DeSean Jackson, and Lee was a playmaker from the moment he stepped on the field at USC.

23. Kansas City- Aaron- Louis Nix III, DT, ND- Solidifies an already stout pass rush. Don’t be shocked if Kansas City trades out of the first to grab a couple more picks to recoup a 2nd rounder from the Alex Smith trade.

24. Cincinnati- Tom- Jason Verrett, CB, TCU- The Bengals have talented corners but they could use an infusion of youth at the position. Leon Hall and Adam Jones have 8 years in the league and Terence Newman has 12. The division boasts wideouts Josh Gordon (CLE) and Antonio Brown (PIT) the top two WR’s in yards in 2013 and Cincy needs to find a star to keep them covered for years to come.

25. SD- Mike- Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech- One of their major needs, even if they didn’t have to face Peyton Manning and Denver twice a year.

26. Cle (F/Ind)- Jake- Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois- A bit of a reach here, but not too much. If all the top corners are gone at this point, I expect Cleveland to trade back, or possibly take their elusive quarterback.

27.NO- Aaron- Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri- Great pass rusher and the Saints need all the help they can get here.

28. CAR – Tom- Odell Beckham Jr, WR, LSU- The Panthers would run to the podium with this pick as they have a perfect replacement for Steve Smith. Carolina is desperate to find targets for Cam Newton to throw to and will benefit from this year being one of the deepest classes of wide receivers in a long time.
29. NE- Mike- Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt- I know NE usually goes defense here, but with no true #1 between Aaron Dobson, Kembrel Thompkins, Julian Edelman, and Danny Amendola, plus Gronk hurt, doesn’t this group need an upgrade? Get Tom Brady his possible number one guy.

30. SF- Jake – Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon St.- It’s a bit of a reach, but he’s my sleeper at the DE position in the draft. I had the 49ers talking Ealy, but with him off the board, Crichton is the most NFL ready DE. He stuffs the run and can rush the passer, perfect for a Niner team that might not have Navarro Bowman or Aldon Smith for extended periods next year.

31.Denver- Aaron- Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio St.- They need corner backs real bad, though it wouldn’t shock me if Houston jumped 2 spots to avoid losing on Tom Savage, who they really like, since Seattle would rather trade their pick to save $1.4 million which will help re-sign Wilson & Sherman

#32 Seattle- Tom- Stephon Tuitt, DE, ND- What do you get the kid who has everything on Christmas? Seattle has a fierce defense and adding the 6’6 305 pounder gives the Seahawks another big to terrorize opposing quarterbacks. Tuitt had 11 sacks in 2012 for the Fighting Irish and 7.5 in 2013.
