College Football Midseason Report - This Is Sports Zone

We have hit the midseason point for most teams in College Football. From the rise of the State of Mississippi to the continued winning of Florida State; this college football season has been fun. As always the off the field issues have been making headlines with Todd Gurley from Georgia suspended indefinitely for signing autographs to Jameis Winston being involved in some type of controversy. Below are the surprises of the first half of the college football season:

Surprises
The State of Mississippi Football

Talk about the revival of college football in Mississippi. From Mississippi State’s big win home against Auburn and Texas A&M to Ole Miss’ win at home against Alabama, one of these teams will most likely win the SEC West. There is also is a good shot that both teams could make the four-team college football playoff. They play each other the weekend of Thanksgiving in their annual rivalry game and it might determine the number one team in the country.

The ACC Minus Florida State

Who would have thought that this would be one of the worse leagues in the country? Not counting Florida State, it seems that every team is either teetering at .500 or just losing games that they should not have lost. Just as the league becomes one of the worse, in comes Notre Dame to play all of those bad teams. Since agreeing to play at least 4 ACC teams a year, Notre Dame has been taking advantage. Florida State has been continuing to win and as long as they do not lose against Notre Dame, they should be in the college football playoff.

Rutgers 5-1

They should be 6-0 but Gary Nova decided to throw 5 interceptions against Penn State. They have played a lot better as of late and are one win away from being bowl eligible. This is team that many thought wouldn’t win more than 4 games. It doesn’t get any easier schedule wise as they play @Ohio State @Nebraska Wisconsin @Michigan State. If they were to pull the upset against Ohio State this weekend, they might an outside shot of winning the BIG 10 East.

TCU & Baylor

These two teams are not the perennial Texas teams that are traditionally successful. They showed this past Saturday that they are overtaking Texas and Texas A&M as the best teams in Texas. Baylor beat TCU last week in one of the most memorable games in this young football season. Baylor still has to play Oklahoma in Norman and if they can win that game, they might be able to squeeze into the four team playoff.

Every Good Team in the PAC 12 has lost

The PAC 12 has had a top team almost fall every week. Oregon was supposed to run the table and make the 4 team playoff but a loss at home to Arizona might hamper those thoughts. UCLA started to fall apart at the worst possible time and loss last week. Stanford has one of strongest defenses in the country but can’t score. It seems most of the teams in the PAC 12 flawed.

The College playoff football committee will be releasing their first poll indicating the four teams that they will recommend for the playoff. Think of it as a poll that can change week to week depending on nothing but an opinion.
