We are now three games into the 2013 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs and one thing is extremely obvious, LeBron James may be the best basketball player right now but he will never be Michael Jordan! After averaging almost 27 points per game in the first three rounds he is averaging below 17 points per game in the finals and in game 3 he didn’t even shoot a single free throw and he’s only shot 6 for the series! Whether it be his low shooting percentage, his teammates not helping him out or the Spurs just being that good the free throws more then anything else to me are proof he will never be Jordan. The one thing about all great players especially Michael Jordan was when the shots weren’t falling he would drive to the hoop to get to the free throw line. Also this isn’t new for James considering for his career in the playoffs he has struggled the most in the Finals compared to any other round of the playoffs he averages less points, a lower shooting percentage and more turnovers. LeBron is just settling for jump shots and letting the Spurs get away with going under screens and just daring him to shoot jump shots. Sometimes you have to force the play and go hard to the hoop and at 6’8 and around 250 pounds there is no man that can stop him from getting to the hole. James has driven 6.7 times per game in the NBA Finals after doing so 10.3 times per game in the East Finals against the Pacers (from ESPN Stats & Information). There is no denying that James isn’t the only reason Miami is down 2-1 to San Antonio right now but if he is going to be called the best player alive then he needs to assume the majority of the blame as well and there is more then enough proof of him being a major reason his team trails. Jordan never let his team trail in the NBA Finals and never let it get past game 6 but most importantly when Jordan’s Bulls struggled in Finals games he was really never the reason! The Heat may have the most talent but that doesn’t mean they’re the best team especially once you reach the playoffs and the Finals. The Heat went 46-3 over a 49 game span before they met Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals. Since they lost to the Pacers in game two the Heat are just 4-5 in their last nine games or 5-5 in their last ten games if you include game one against Indiana. Now they haven’t lost back to back games since January 8th and 10th but if the big 3 hope to avoid going 1-2 in the NBA Finals and possibly being broken up in the offseason then the team needs to step up especially LeBron James!! In other words LeBron needs to prove me wrong and show he can be better the Jordan!!!
