Johan Santana Toss's 1st No No in Mets History - This Is Sports Zone

27,069 fans came out to Citi Field last night expecting a fun baseball game as Carlos Beltran was making his first trip back to New York. A great pitching match up between 2 Cy Young award winners, and the World Champions are in town. What else but a Mets win could these fans ask for, how about the first No Hitter in New York Mets history. After 51 years, Johan Santana last night became the first pitcher to throw a no hitter for the New York Mets. Manager Terry Collins discussed Santana and his return from September 2010 shoulder surgery during the post game press conference.

“I think that’s what the whole thing’s about,” Collins said. “To do what he had to do, to have this surgery done and have people say, ‘He’s not coming back, his career’s over. If he comes back, he’ll be a subpar guy, just another guy who had surgery who is being paid a lot of money, so he’ll continue to pitch.’ What’s got him to this level is what he showed you tonight. He trusts himself. He trusts his ability. He never gives up, never gives in. He said, ‘I’m going to come back from this,’ and it led to this.” (Source: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_06_01_slnmlb_nynmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=nym)

Johan Santana finished the game with 134 pitches, a career high, had 5 walks and stuck out 8. Left fielder Mike Baxter gave the 27,069 fans some relief in the top of the seventh, when Yadier Molina hit a fly ball and Baxter had to chase it down. He caught it as he crashed into the wall and fell. That play forced him from the game with a left shoulder contusion, but it saved Johan’s no-hit bid. Johan Santana now has pitched back to back complete game shutouts, what other special things will happen with this Mets team? Guess we’ll all have to pay attention to this team, as they are for real.
