Bust out the Brooms! - This Is Sports Zone

The New York Yankees completed their 3 game sweep of the New York Mets last night in dramatic fashion winning 5-4. Down 3-0 in the bottom of the 7th, Yankee Catcher Russell Martin hit a 2 run home run to get the Bronx Bombers on the scoreboard and brought life to the sold out crowd of 49,010. He wasn’t done yet though, Martin hit a walk off solo home run off Mets RP Jon Rauch to complete the comeback and sweep the subway series.
“I tried to jump in the air to celebrate, and I got about two inches off the ground,” Martin said, smiling widely after the Bombers’ second walk-off victory of the year. “I still managed to touch home plate. It feels good.”
Mets SP Jonathan Niese pitched 7 quality innings only giving up the Martin 2run home run, both unearned runs, other wise Niese was very effective. Yankee SP Andy Pettitte got the no decision and was only in trouble in the 2nd inning where the Mets scored their 3 runs ( 1 unearned) . In the 6th inning Pettitte hurt his pitching hand as he snagged a Hairston chopper back to the mound, tossing it to first base for the out.
“It hurt immediately,” Pettitte said. “I was like, ‘Oh, no,’ right when it hit my hand. I probably shouldn’t have done that.”
Pettitte stayed in the game after being examined on the mound by Girardi and assistanttrainer Mark Littlefield. X-rays came back negative and he shouldn’t miss a start. The Yankees should feel fortunate thats all that happened to their 40 yr old starting pitcher. New York Yankees now have 7 wins in the month of June and start a series tonight against The Atlanta Braves.
